Splurge vs. Steal: Find The Best Deals For Your Budget

Splurge vs. Steal: Orgazing ptions for every budget! Source: www.faithfullyorganized.wordpress.com

The high prices of organizational products never cease to shock me. A simple banker’s box becomes three times more expensive if it’s printed with chevron and labeled as a “decorative storage container.”

Now, don’t get me wrong–some innovative organizers are totally worth the high price tag. (I mean, am I the only one smitten with this pull-out lid holder?!) But when a basic, molded plastic container costs more than a pack of diapers, I draw the line.

As I’ve said before, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to organize! I tend to use The Container Store as inspiration and find similar, more reasonably priced products elsewhere.

So, I thought it’d be fun to do a little comparison shopping, my own version of HGTV’s The High Low Project. (For those of you unfamiliar with the show, an interior designer finds high-dollar inspiration for a room and then mimics the look with budget-friendly replacements.)

My shopping trip was comprised of my four, favorite stores for bargain organizers (minus thrift stores):

Aldi

Big Lots

Costco

The Dollar Tree

I took note of what each store had in stock and then found a comparable product at The Container Store.  Now, please keep in mind, some of the higher priced items might be better quality, larger in size, or have additional features, but it’s nice to know there are cheaper alternatives.

For example, I don’t mind spending a bit more for a well-made basket that won’t fall apart on me. But for a plastic bin in the playroom, I’m fine with a cheapie from The Dollar Store. This post isn’t meant to discourage you from shopping at The Container Store; rather, I want show there are lots of options when organizing. It can be affordable. It’s up to you to decide where to splurge or save money.

(And I apologize for the poor quality of my photos. I had to snap them quick before my children tore the aisles to shreds with me screeching “Don’t touch!!!” I swear, that’s going to be etched on my tombstone.)

So, without further ado, here’s the Faithfully Organized version of…
